Knit-Out Boston 2004. And a scarf.

September 27th, 2004 | Diversions, Knitting

I would like to dedicate this post to Metrokitty who, after four pints of birthday hard cider, jabbed a finger in my direction and announced "post more about knitting!"

The contest for fastest knitter:

They cast on 10 stitches and knitted stockingette (knit one row, purl the next, etc.) for five minutes. The third woman from the left (white shirt) won with twenty-two rows.

And the fastest crocheters:

I think the woman in the white tank top won, but I don't remember. Check out the lady in the black tank, though. That's right, a knitting tattoo:

This gentleman was in line to sign up, then decided not to. I wish he had — he was the only male I saw knitting or crocheting. Editor's note: I may be inventing these non-noun forms of "crochet", just go with it.

Some people appear to have made their own hats. This is Miriam; she took second place in the fastest knitter contest.

They were selling T-shirts to raise money for some charity. Can't recall the name, and it isn't listed on their website.

Cute, but the "Got <something>?" concept is completely overdone. C'mon — my local laundrymat sells "Got Stains?" tees. Buy one of these instead (I like this one).

And a scarf.

Now that Mom has received her birthday present, I can show you pictures of the lovely fuzzy scarf I knitted her:

Size 11 needles (pretty yellow plastic ones from Susan Bates) and one skein of Lion brand Chenille Thick & Quick in Khaki. No pattern for this one, just basic stockingette stitch. The keyhole keeps it snug up against the neck, and it is so cozy I am thinking about making another for myself.
